My expensive year-and-a-half old Sony Vaio desktop, all in one computer crashed, taking with it iTunes and Outlook mail. I no longer have anyone's email address, so if you want to hear from me, please drop me an email. My friend Neil is trying to get the hard drive working again. In the meantime, I bought a Mac. Back in business.

I feel your download...right now, my Vaio, 1-year old, is back in San Diego to be fixed for the second time. It goes away for 3 weeks at a time.

If I had the cash, I'd get a Mac tonight. I tried to register my complaint through their customer service (Sony is well-buffered against such initiatives) and got a phone call back. I told the guy my complaints, particularly that I'd never recommend this computer to faculty and students again. He took down some of what I said, but had no authority to connect me with anyone in authority.

Two days later, I received a satisfaction survey. Never again.

Congrats on getting a Mac. If you want to move away from Microsoft Word (there is a Mac version of Office, or the free Open Office) there are some great writing applications for the Mac - such as SCRIVENER, NISUS, MELLEL,ULYSSES, and Apple's PAGES.
