J. D. Salinger has died. The Times obit here. "I hope to hell that when I do die somebody has the sense to just dump me in the river or something. Anything except sticking me in a goddam cemetary. People coming and putting a bunch of flowers on your stomach on Sunday, and all that crap. Who wants flowers when you're dead? Nobody.” Here's a piece from the Guardian on Salinger's 90th birthday last year. And here is the heartbreaking story "For Esme--with Love and Squalor." (thanks to Tom in Lehigh Acres)

For Esme with Love & Squalor. What would we do without this story?
does this mean i have to read The Catcher in the Rye AGAIN? also, could you change in the above to "cemetery"? all eee's. all ease. great thanks
No ..It doesn't mean you have to do anything.
Also , for the benefit of the worms and bugs could
you change it to "Some Eatery ! " I think possibly even they
don't care how "cemetery" is spelt as long as we keep em coming.
Sounds like you had the same tyrant for junior high english as I...but that couldn-t
possibly be. The bugs got her a long time ago.
And the bee-s would like to be spent with a capital B.
Grate , Thanx
