trees are people too

I was born and raised here. I

love this state. It seems right here.

Trees are the right height. I

Like seeing the lakes. I

love the lakes, the Great Lakes,

but also all the little inland lakes

that dot the parts of Michigan.

I love cars. I dunno, I mean, I

grew up totally in love with cars. I

know the American cars pretty well.

Drive a Mustang. I love cars. I

love American cars, and long

may they rule the world,

let me tell you.

What occurred to me tonight when--thanks to MSNBC--I again saw this clip (or heard it from the kitchen, actually) was that as vacuous and strange as the words themselves are, it's mostly the delivery that's the problem. It comes across as forced and painfully awkward. When I then imagined Bill Clinton, who has a knack for coming across as charming, speaking the very same words, they had a completely different effect on me; Clinton could have somehow made this ridiculous spiel sound relaxed, down-to-earth, and lighthearted. But when the speaker looks and sounds like he's incredibly uncomfortably having to say anything friendly to his fellow human beings, you can't avoid realizing what drivel it is.

Laura R, couldn't be more right so here's the Clinton version

'Sborn here. Love it.
Everything's right here.
Trees, lakes, great ones,
little ones. I just love
Michigan. The cars.
Drive a Mustang.
(Bites lips, nods,
big thumbs up.)
American cars,
O Boy!

Hah! That's perfect, the Bill Clinton version in the last post! I love it (more than I love cars or Michigan lakes and trees). It's no wonder that Bill has made a comeback after that, um, unfortunate INCIDENT near the end of his time in the White House!
